Why we built Oliminal

Dreams are slippery. The clearest memory of one you'll ever have is in the first few minutes after waking — and that's exactly when it's hardest to reach for a notebook, open an app, or type a coherent sentence. Oliminal exists to close that gap: a place to capture a dream, a morning reflection, or a tarot draw with as little friction as possible, before the tender moment passes.

We started as a household project — a bedside recorder for a family curious about their dream lives — and grew into something we wanted to share more broadly. The philosophy hasn't changed: capture first, make sense of it later. Gentle AI readings help surface symbols and recurring patterns, but they're a starting point for reflection, not a verdict.

The other half of the philosophy is privacy. Dreams are some of the most unguarded material a person produces. We built Oliminal so that even we can't read yours — see our on-device and E2EE promise for the details.
